Lebanon County Bicycle Transportation Map 2019

In 2010, LVBC was encouraged by our member Michelle Robinson, a professional planner, to develop a bicycle transportation map for planning purposes.   The Lebanon County Planning Department and LEBCO MPO staff would not agree to developing a county bike plan.    The map would have to serve.  PennDOT Central Office staff supported the map project by providing funding to contract with traffic engineering firms. Many members biked and drove throughout the County to identify key roads for bicyclists and the roads’ conditions for safe cycling.   Members need to update the map on a regular basis.  Lebanon County GIS staff have worked skillfully to develop the map and maintain it.  The 2019 edition is located on the LEBCO MPO website, http://lebcounty.org/depts/Planning/Pages/MPO.aspx.    Scroll down on the right.      The Map is also available on the pedestrian bicycle resource section of PennDOT’s website at https://www.penndot.gov/TravelInPA/RideaBike/Pages/Bicycle-Planning-and-Design.aspx.     Bicyclists should continue to report where safer road conditions are needed or are improved.  Be vigilant for installation of non compliant edge line rumbles.  Examples are the rumbles on SR 443 and SR 72 segments.  Also, PennDOT never fixed the rumbles on SR 934 with the appropriate gaps. Butler and Gold Mine Roads have rumbles that can cause a cyclist who is biking speedily downhill to crash.
