Lebanon County is adopting an updated Long Range Transportation Plan through 2045. The metropolitan planning organization for Lebanon County is LEBCO MPO. The LVBC Board has expressed our concerns about the most recent draft provided in May. As of mid – March, LVBC had been advised that a bike ped advisory group to LEBCO MPO would be included as well as the recommendation for a county bike ped plan. A plan was rejected in 2016. A bike ped advisory committee is an important step in institutionalizing active transportation modes. The advisory board was removed in the final draft with no explanation, nor notification of the change. For many years, LVBC has sought to have on road improvements made for the safety of men and women who bike. This is why we have spent much time in updating the Lebanon County Bicycle Transportation Map. We have raised concerns about specific segments of the roads and the City of Lebanon where many residents bike as their means of transportation. Earn a Bike clients have made us even more aware. Consequently, the Board and participating members worked diligently to provide information and recommendations to LEBCO MPO staff. These are stored in Planning on the Menu bar. Also, since LVBC’s existence, the article written by Charles Gandy and his perspective of a Power Pyramid has been available under Advocacy. He explains the role of an advocacy organization like LVBC as well as an “inside” advisory group.
