Two bicyclists were enjoying a bike ride in rural Jackson Township and observed four black pick up trucks being driven out of a parking lot. They didn’t anticipate what would happen next. Each driver accelerated and spewed black soot over them. The bicyclists were aware of what “rolling coal” is and that bicyclists faced this situation in other states, but certainly not in Lebanon County. It was a very unhealthy experience and disappointing. The Wikipedia definition is “Rolling coal is the illegal practice of modifying a diesel engine to increase the amount of fuel entering the engine in order to emit large amounts of black or grey sooty exhaust fumes into the air.” There are many You Tube examples of cyclists being targeted by drivers.
